This artwork is inspired by I Wanna Be Yours, the iconic poem by Dr. John Cooper Clarke, later reimagined in song by the Arctic Monkeys. I wanted to create Valentine’s cards that communicate the devotion and adoration we feel for a partner, but with a little wink. Depicting household items as anthropomorphised characters, with the sentiments of Clarke’s words. Turning everyday objects into symbols of love and loyalty.
Drawing from the charm of classic pin-up illustration and the playful exaggeration of rubber hose animation, I merged these two styles to create something nostalgic, and familiar but reimagined.
Once designed, these were brought to life by the fantastic Duplikat Press in Margate. Riso printed in three vibrant colors on 300gsm flecked off-white Alga Carta paper, the texture and finish add to their vintage appeal.
Though originally printed for Valentine’s Day, affection isn’t seasonal. You don't need a reason to let them know x
